Earning Advertising Revenue from Your Blog
What is a blog? The actual term is weblog, blog for short. It is an online record of a person’s thoughts and comments. More and more lately, however, it has also become a great way to make money online. Whether you are pursuing a dream of becoming a writer or want to make extra money, promoting yourself through your blog is a great way to start.
Some writers have their own blogs to market their writing. Others want to sell products. Still others want to make extra money, but are unsure of how to do so. If a person is a seasoned blogger and has developed a good following, joining up with an advertising program may be the best route to take. A good advertising program will match up different product ads based on certain phrases or words in the blog posts (known as keywords), and as people go to the blogs that interest them the most, the products that would also interest them are advertised right there on the sidebars. This makes sense. For example, if a person goes to a writer’s blog, is interested in writing also, and sees an ad from a publisher or writing site, he or she is almost sure to click on that ad to learn more about following a dream of his or her own.
Where does the revenue part come in? Two ways. One is by clicking. Each time a person visits your blog and then clicks on an ad, you get what is called a pay-per-click commission. If that click leads to the visitor actually buying a product, you get a higher commission because it came through an advertisement on your blog. How much are you paid? It varies according to the product and the volume of visitors you have coming to your blog. The more people who click on the ads and/or purchase a product, the more revenue you can make.
Ads on the sidebar were mentioned above. However, you can also place ads in other areas of your blog. They can appear at the top when you first visit the blog, at the bottom after you have read the posts, or anywhere in between. It is a matter of personal preference. Sidebars are still one of the most popular choices.
This is where you need to be careful, though. Ads really are a great way of making extra money online but you do not want to overdo it. People come to your blog to see what you write. You do not want to have it filled to overflowing with ads. A little goes a long way. People who find a few ads on your blog that tie in with their own interests are more likely to click on them. People who go to your blog and find it has been taken over by ads and your own personal writing is nearly hidden due to this will most likely leave your blog and not return. Finding a good compromise in the middle is the best way to add to the revenue side of blogging.
Remember your blog belongs to you. Write what you love and endear your site to your visitors. Have ads that coincide with the blog and you will begin making a nice little income as an added benefit to the blog that you created.
